THE NEW BUILDING

In November 2015, a benefactor offered Bishop Mons. Šašik a piece of land to be made available to the needs of the Eparchy. The land is located in the small village of Tsyhanivtsi, in a green valley just outside town surrounded by beech and hardwood woods.

THE CURRENT SITUATION

In the darkest period of its troubled history, the post-war years and the Soviet occupation, the Eparchy of Mukacevo suffered strong repression with the killing and deportation of various priests. Churches and properties were confiscated and for the most part, never returned even after rehabilitation in 1989.

Yet in this context of desolation and material emptiness, a hope was born based on the faith of thousands of people who remained faithful even in clandestinity, which today is bearing so much fruit. There is a strong need for a new evangelization of a people that has suffered practical and ideological atheism, and it is precisely in this context that the Eparchial Missionary Seminary "Redemptoris Mater" in Uzhgorod rises.

The process of seminary formation needs a suitable and appropriate place that can foster the activities of prayer, study, recreation providing food and accommodation to the entire seminary community.

Not possessing any suitable property, for now, the seminary is located on the top floor of the episcopal residence located in the center of Uzhgorod. An arrangement that can only be temporary.

On 11 June 2017, in the presence of the local bishops Mons Milan and Mons Nil and with the special participation of the Archbishop of Warsaw, Card Kazimierz Nycz was blessed with the land and the foundation stone of the new building.

THE PROJECT

09.jpg

The seminary that will be built wants to respond to the canons of a new aesthetic, the result of a synthesis between architecture and catechesis: we want to build not only a functional building but that can, through its beauty, speak to the heart of anyone who lives in it or visits it.

An architecture that speaks of God’s love for man, rich in catechetical symbols, that recall the call to holiness that we received in baptism.

Therefore the two main places, which will have greater evidence, will be the sanctuary of the Word and the Church. These two environments speak to us of the pillars of Christian life: listening to the Word, a lamp in our footsteps, and the daily celebration of the Eucharist lived with calm and dignity, knowing that on this foundation the congregation is built, and the barriers between the brethren are broken down.
